Fernando Young is a photographer, cinematographer and director based in Rio and São Paulo.

Fernando Young grew up in Rio de Janeiro and at sixteen years old started to work as photo assistant to Luís Garrido, at Casa da Foto.

After a couple of years, he moved to Spain to study photography at the Escuela de Fotografia de Andaluzia, with the brilliant portuguese teacher, Tiago da Cruz.

Getting back to Brazil, Fernando worked as an assistant camera for cinema and still photography productions until 2009, when he started shooting commercials and features as a cinematographer and also a director.

In 2013 he won a Latin Grammy for the Caetano Veloso album cover, Abraçaço, in partnership with the art director Tonho Quinta-feira.

In the last couple of years Fernando has focused his work in commercial shootings and features, working as a cinematographer for 3 seasons in the TV show Sob Pressão (Globo), as well as the feature film Chacrinha “O Velho Guerreiro” and some others, both directed by Andrucha Waddington.

As a director, his work spans from fashion films - both commissioned and independent, passing through music video clips and reaching documentary films.

Nonetheless, Fernando finds great joy in portraiture and documental work, always managing to connect to what made him first fall in love with photography.
